Summer can be a time of unexpected expenses – including utility bills (thanks, air conditioning), high gas prices, and extra vacation costs. When you’re battling to stay under your budget, it can be hard to know where to trim expenses. But with a little planning ahead, you can banish your budget fears and still enjoy your summer with these three tips!
Cook meals at home
It’s never been a better time to break out the grill! Commit to eating out less over the summer months and cooking more meals at home. If you’re really feeling ambitious, you can also consider planting your own vegetable garden this spring so you can harvest your own homegrown produce.
Cut the cord and go outside!
Summer fun doesn’t have to break the bank. Some streaming services will allow you to pause your subscriptions at no extra charge, or you can cut the cord on expensive cable TV service. Replace these with outdoor games, or check out your local chamber of commerce website to find free events happening in your community.
Cool down with cheaper alternatives
You don’t have to blast your air conditioning all day and night to stay cool this summer. First, try to stay hydrated and drink cool drinks, or turn on a fan to get the air moving in your house. Misting fans are also an inexpensive way for both kids and adults to beat the heat!
